A guardianship is when someone else is appointed to have decision-making authority over another person due to their age or incapacity. A conservatorship covers that person’s finances. Someone may be incapacitated to the point that they need a conservator but not a guardian. If someone has no assets, they may need a guardian but not a conservator.
