Alison Baxter Herlihy, Attorney
Family law attorney Alison Herlihy is a native of Mobile, Alabama. Alison has engaged in the private practice of family law since 2005, focusing primarily on domestic relations, divorce and child support, child custody law, adoption law, juvenile, probate practice, and wills.
Alison Baxter Herlihy earned the prestigious AV Preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which recognizes attorneys for the highest levels of legal ability and professional ethical standards. Alison is a certified Guardian Ad Litem. In 2015, Alison became a Registered Mediator on the Alabama State Court Mediator Roster, in both general and domestic relations mediation.
Alison earned her J.D. degree in May 2005 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar in September 2005. She was later admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 2007.
In addition to serving the community as a family law attorney, Alison has continued to be an active member of the bar as well as the community as a whole. She has served on the executive committee of the Mobile Bar Association, acting as assistant treasurer in 2009 and treasurer in 2010 as well as chair of the Domestic Relations section in 2019 and 2020. Alison has also served as an Instructor, both in the Paralegal Certificate Program and in various law-related Special Courses, at the University of South Alabama for several years, beginning in 2012.
Alison is a certified Guardian Ad Litem and has been a Registered Divorce/Domestic Relations Mediator since 2015. She is very active in the Alabama State Bar and the Mobile Bar Association, having served on the board of the state Family Law Section and various chair and committee roles with the Mobile Bar, including the Grievance Committee, Nominating Committee, Mentoring Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee.
In the community at large, Alison previously served on the board of directors for numerous nonprofit organizations, including The Family Center, Mobile Arts Council, the Junior League of Mobile, and McKemie Place. She is presently an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and enjoys sharing her passion for reading with her Little. She is also a graduate of the 2016-2017 class of Leadership Mobile.
Alison has been recognized by the community numerous times, in part for her work as a divorce lawyer. In 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2022, Alison was awarded a “Nappie” Award by Lagniappe Weekly as the readers’ choice for Best Divorce Lawyer. Alison was also a part of Mobile Bay Monthly’s 40 Under 40 class of 2019, for up-and-coming young professionals in our community. In what is probably a record turnaround time, she was then recognized as one of the Focus Empowers 2022 class of 40 over 40, recognizing women over 40 who are making a big impact in our community.
Outside of divorce and family law, Alison’s passion is teaching and practicing yoga. She is co-owner of Kindred Yoga, a local yoga studio in Midtown Mobile. She takes the techniques and skills she learns through yoga off of the yoga mat to help her guide and serve her divorce clients through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
In her free time, Alison enjoys cooking and entertaining, spending time with family, traveling, and practicing and teaching yoga.
Walter Gewin, Attorney
Attorney Walter Gewin is a native of Mobile, Alabama. After graduation from law school, Walter clerked for Circuit Court Judge John Lockett before pursuing a career in the private practice of law. Initially, practicing a wide variety of law; Walter’s practice has become more focused on family law, including juvenile, probate, and domestic relations matters. Walter also currently serves as a certified Guardian Ad Litem in Dependency, Delinquency, and Domestic Relations matters.
Walter graduated from UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile. After high school, he attended the University of Alabama where he graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in General Business.
Walter attended law school at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law from 2010 to 2013. While in law school, Walter interned for a Plaintiff’s firm in Mobile in the summers during law school, participated in Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, and completed an externship with the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence.Walter earned his J.D. degree from Cumberland in May 2013 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar in September 2013.
Additionally, Walter is active in the community and currently serves on the service council at St. Ignatius Church in Mobile. In 2018 and 2019, Walter was among the finalists for the “Nappie” award by Lagniappe Weekly as the readers’ choice for Best Criminal Attorney. When not in court or working, Walter enjoys being by the water, spending time with his family, and traveling.
Anna Eden, Attorney
Attorney Anna Eden is a native of Mobile, Alabama. Prior to joining Herlihy Family Law, Anna worked as a law clerk for Circuit Court Judges Michael Windom and Michael Sherman. It was during her time clerking for Judge Sherman that Anna discovered her passion for helping people navigate the complex and emotional issues involved in family law.
Anna aids in the representation of individuals across a variety of family law issues, including divorce and child support, juvenile law, child custody law, probate, and wills.
Anna is a graduate of Murphy High School where she was a student in the IB program. After graduating, she attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and Corporate Relations. She then went on to earn her J.D. from Cumberland Law School at Samford University.
While at Cumberland, Anna was a member of the Cumberland Public Interest and Community Service Society as well as Women in Law. She was also on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters.
When she’s not working, Anna enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, taking her golden retriever, Josie, to the beach, and running “errands” at TJ Maxx and Target.
Heather Dennis, Paralegal
Heather Dennis is a native to Mobile, Alabama. She attended Murphy High School where she spent all four years on Color Gaurd as part of the Mighty Marching Panther Band.
She also performed on the Murphy High School Winter Guard team all four years. Heather graduated with Honors from Murphy in 2012 and went on to study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Originally a Chemistry Major, Heather switched to English and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors in English Literature and a Minor in Sociology. Heather enjoys rock climbing, travel, food (Pho and Curry are her favorites), and tattoos.
Jill Chancey, Legal Intake Specialist
Jill Chancey is a New Orleans native who has called Mobile home since 2019. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio, majoring in Art History and English. She also has an MA and a PhD in Art History. After earning a certificate in Paralegal Studies, she pivoted to the legal profession after several decades as an art historian. In her free time she enjoys science fiction, art museums, and collecting and reselling vintage design.
