Juvenile Law F.A.Q.s

What kinds of cases are heard in Juvenile Court?

In Mobile County, the Juvenile Court handles cases where minors have been charged with a crime, truancy charges for both children and adults, paternity and custody cases for non-married parents, termination of parental rights, and dependency cases.

We handle cases with non-married parents (which includes paternity, custody, visitation, and child support), termination of parental rights, and dependency cases.

A dependency case is filed when a non-parent (which can include relatives, such as grandparents, or nonrelatives) files for custody of a child. Typically, abuse and neglect is involved in a dependency case, and the petitioner must prove that the biological parent is unfit in order to prevail.

The Mobile County Juvenile Court is located at Strickland Youth Center, 2315 Costarides Street, Mobile, Alabama 36617.
